Blancpain’s Lady B makes its case through scale. Just 19mm across, the new women’s watch places an automatic movement inside a rounded, highly polished case that reads almost as a bead on its double-tour leather strap. There are no diamonds and no elaborate dial decoration. The interest lies in the relationship between a restrained exterior and the mechanical work contained within it.
Launched for the Ladybird collection’s 70th anniversary, the design looks back to the Ladybird Bullet of 1956. That earlier watch emerged during Betty Fiechter’s leadership of Blancpain, when miniature mechanical movements helped expand the possibilities of women’s watch design. Lady B returns to that idea without reproducing the historic model: it approaches the watch as a small, three-dimensional object, rather than simply reducing a conventional case.

Offered in stainless steel or 18K red gold, the case measures 13.2mm thick. Its apparent continuity conceals a two-part construction, with a smaller back tucked beneath the upper section. Blancpain describes the challenge as making the join disappear through carefully controlled proportions and polishing. The case combines polished, satin-finished and micro-blasted surfaces, with hand-finishing extending to details that are easy to miss at first glance.
One such detail is the strap passage. Instead of attaching to projecting lugs, the leather threads through an opening in the case itself. Its interior is micro-blasted, while the edges are finished by hand. The resulting silhouette is uninterrupted, allowing the strap to become part of the composition rather than an accessory fixed to it.

Inside is Blancpain’s automatic calibre 615, a movement introduced in 1995 and subsequently refined. Measuring 15.7mm in diameter and 3.9mm thick, it contains 180 components and has a 38-hour power reserve. A silicon balance spring and Côtes de Genève decoration complete a specification that gives the diminutive watch genuine mechanical substance.

The warm opaline dial is equally considered: two hands, applied gold hour markers and a discreet signature leave the rounded architecture in focus. Seven calf-leather strap colours range from white, beige and mocha to burgundy, blue, coral and purple. The double wrap adds a jewellery-like rhythm around the wrist.
Lady B joins the permanent collection rather than arriving as a limited edition. Its appeal is a quieter expression of fine watchmaking, built around miniaturisation, finish and the pleasure of a distinctive form.
