Mouawad’s Cascading Veil Gives a 62.89-Carat Sapphire a Diamond Cascade

Mouawad’s Cascading Veil necklace gives the movement of falling water a precise high-jewellery structure. Round diamonds form descending lines around the neckline, with pear-shaped stones lending the lower edge a droplet-like rhythm. At the centre, a large blue sapphire brings the eye to rest. The composition opens out across the collar before gathering around this single stone.

The house identifies that centrepiece as a 62.89-carat cushion-shaped natural, unheated sapphire from Sri Lanka. Its scale gives the necklace a strong point of focus, while the surrounding diamonds extend the design beyond a conventional pendant. Seen in close-up, the shorter and longer strands create a graduated fringe, carrying the water-inspired idea through the silhouette.

The gem specifications explain the density of that diamond surround: 360 round brilliant-cut natural white diamonds total 63.52 carats, joined by 20 pear-shaped brilliant-cut natural white diamonds weighing 12.52 carats. Together, the diamonds amount to 76.04 carats, set in 18-karat white gold. The use of the two shapes gives the arrangement its changing pace, from closely spaced circles to the pointed ends of the drops.

Mouawad reports 550 hours of craftsmanship for the necklace. Its stated priorities included preserving visual lightness and achieving flexibility and balance when worn. Those aims are especially relevant to a jewel of this scale, where the setting must accommodate a substantial central stone within a flowing composition.

The finished design makes its strongest impression through proportion. The blue centre holds the composition together, while the graduated diamond lines draw attention along its edges. Cascading Veil translates its water reference into a considered arrangement of length, shape and space, giving a richly set necklace a sense of movement.
