Messika’s Terres de Contrastes Showcases the 20.46-Carat Okavango Blue Diamond

Messika’s Terres de Contrastes turns the varied landscapes of Botswana into the setting for a high-jewellery collection. Presented at the Grand Palais on 1 October, the collection moves between the blues and greens associated with the Okavango Delta, the ochres and reds of the Kalahari Desert, and the pale mineral tones of the Makgadikgadi Pans. That geographical contrast gives the presentation its organising idea.

At its centre is the Okavango Blue, worn by Irina Shayk in the closing look. Messika identifies the diamond as a 20.46-carat Fancy Deep Blue stone with VVS1 clarity, cut from a 41.11-carat rough. The precise weight and grading offer a more compelling point of focus than the language of spectacle: this is a jewel whose identity rests on the character of an exceptional central stone.

The runway placed that centrepiece within a broader sequence of designs. Adriana Lima opened wearing Divine Enigma, while Grace Elizabeth appeared in Girafe. Seen together, the named creations establish Terres de Contrastes as a collection of distinct statements, rather than a single hero jewel surrounded by an event.

Carine Roitfeld styled the presentation alongside Valérie Messika. The format placed the jewellery on moving bodies, giving its scale and arrangement a different context from a display case or isolated product photograph. Giovanni Giannoni’s runway images record that relationship between the jewels and the silhouettes chosen to frame them.

The Grand Palais’s Galerie Courbe supplied an architectural counterpoint. Its curving space was used to evoke the dunes of the Kalahari, bringing the collection’s landscape narrative into the staging. Yet the most persuasive images keep attention close to the jewellery: the way a necklace occupies the neckline, or a distinctive stone anchors the composition.

For Messika, the presentation makes a clear connection between place, colour and the body. The Okavango Blue provides its focal point, while Divine Enigma and Girafe suggest the different directions that can coexist within the same high-jewellery story.
